Masterpieces from the Art Institute of Chicago

(A new spin on “Paintings Every Kid Should Know”)

For the next few sessions, we’re taking a brand-new spin on Paintings Every Kid Should Know — this time focusing on masterpieces from the Art Institute of Chicago!

In this class, young artists will explore famous paintings, learn about the artists behind them, and discover the techniques that made these works timeless. Each week, students will create their own inspired versions of these masterpieces, experimenting with styles like impressionism, pointillism, printmaking, and stained glass.

By the end of the session, my hope is that families will take a trip to the Art Institute together so kids can see these paintings in person — and recognize them with excitement! (Did you know the Art Institute offers free admission for children under 14?)

Each week, you’ll watch your child’s creativity and confidence grow as they connect with some of the most beloved artworks in the world, including:
🎨 A Sunday on La Grande Jatte – Georges Seurat
🌊 The Great Wave off Kanagawa – Hokusai
🌾 American Gothic – Grant Wood
🛏 The Bedroom – Vincent van Gogh
☁️ Sky Above Clouds – Georgia O’Keeffe
🌸 Water Lilies & Haystacks – Claude Monet
👭 Two Sisters (On the Terrace) – Pierre-Auguste Renoir
🌈 Chagall Windows – Marc Chagall
💎 Tiffany Windows – Louis Comfort Tiffany
🎸 The Guitar – Pablo Picasso
